A dramatic swing in temperature in Calgary over the last 24 hours has left some communities with water issues.
At 8 a.m. on Monday, Environment Canada registered a temperature of – 20 C at the Calgary International Airport. By that same time Tuesday, the temperature had risen to -1 C. Temperatures in the low positives were also registered throughout the night.
Now, multiple communities in the city are the sites of water main breaks, with crews on scene working to restore service as soon as possible.
Breaks have been reported in Abbeydale, Deer Run, University Heights, Skyline West, Banff Trail, Haysboro, and Coral Springs, according to the city.
As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, more than 200 homes and six businesses were without water due to breaks.
Water wagons have been deployed to some of the impacted areas, according to the city.
Under normal circumstances, the city says water main breaks are repaired and water service is returned within 24 hours.
