Headless deer carcass left at NE Calgary shopping plaza; wildlife officials investigating

Wildlife officials are investigating a poaching incident after a gutted and headless deer carcass was found at a northeast Calgary shopping plaza last month.

Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services say officers were called to the Monterrey Square Plaza at the northeast corner of 68 Street NE and the Trans-Canada Highway on Dec. 16.

Officers arrived to find the gutted and headless carcass of a mature white-tailed buck had been left near commercial dumpsters behind a Co-op grocery store.

Investigators reviewed security footage that they say show the animal was left in the lot around noon on Dec. 15.

Officials say the footage shows the carcass being dumped by a male and a female who were driving a 1998 to 2003 blue Toyota Sienna minivan with grey lower paneling.

Alberta Fish and Wildlife have released security photos in hopes a member of the public could provide them with more information.
