Premier Smith meets with Donald Trump during trip to Mar-a-Lago

Premier Danielle Smith has met with President-elect Donald Trump while in Florida, sharing photos alongside Canadian businessman Kevin O’Leary.

Smith took to X Sunday morning sharing that she had met Trump at Mar-a-Lago last night along with spending time with him at his golf club this morning.

“We had a friendly and constructive conversation during which I emphasized the mutual importance of the U.S. – Canadian energy relationship, and specifically, how hundreds of thousands of American jobs are supported by energy exports from Alberta,” Smith stated.

She added that she was also able to have similar discussions with several key allies of the incoming administration and was encouraged to hear their support for a strong energy and security relationship with Canada.

“On behalf of Albertans, I will continue to engage in constructive dialogue and diplomacy with the incoming administration and elected federal and state officials from both parties, and will do all I can to further Alberta’s and Canada’s interests,” Smith added.

Smith shared back in December that she will be attending Trump’s inauguration in Washington DC, which will be held on January 20.

Trump is also anticipated to visit Alberta this summer as prominent world leaders gather in the province for the 51st G7 summit.
