Someone was arrested for driving straight through a Canadian border crossing

Police say someone drove straight through a Vancouver area border crossing on the weekend without stopping to speak with an agent or show their passport.

The pickup truck driver was arrested Sunday morning in Surrey, according to a Surrey Police Service news release.

Canada Border Services Agency tapped the municipal police force for help after the truck with Washington State plates blew through Pacific Highway Border Crossing around 8:45 am.

Officers tried to find the driver near the border, and noticed a white pickup truck driving erratically near King George Boulevard and 64th Avenue. Police said the truck was driving into oncoming traffic.

SPS officers were able to stop the vehicle, and arrested the driver. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

“Although vehicles were damaged, there were no injuries to the officers, the suspect or other drivers on the road,” SPS’ public information officer Ian MacDonald said in the release.

Now police are asking anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward and help their investigation. The file number associated with the incident is 2025-806 (SU), and SPS can be reached at 604-599-0502.

Daily Hive has asked SPS if impairment with alcohol or drugs is believed to be a contributing factor toward the driver’s behaviour. We’ll update this story when we hear back from police.
