A lucky lottery player from Ontario had some reassuring words for her boss after she won a huge prize.
Saying “yes” to Encore paid off for Thunder Bay resident Tammy Larson. She matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the November 28, 2024, Daily Grand draw to win $100,000.
Larson, who works in administration, is a regular Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) player, according to the company.
Each week, she picks up her Daily Grand, Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, and Ontario 49 tickets from her go-to retail location, making sure to add Encore to all her plays.
Larson has won many smaller prizes over the years, but this is her first major lottery win.
“I was at the store when I used the ticket checker to see how I did on my tickets. When I saw the prize amount, I couldn’t believe it,” she recounted while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim her windfall. “I took my winning ticket to the clerk, and as they validated it, they said, ‘Oh, you won big!’ We were both thrilled!”
She then told the important people in her life about the amazing news, including her boss.
“I texted my husband, and we enjoyed a moment of pure happiness together,” Larson smiled.
“I also shared the good news with my dad and then with my boss, reassuring him that I wasn’t going to be quitting my job,” she laughed.
The lottery player has lived a full life and plans to make it even fuller with her windfall.
“I’ve always tried to live life to the fullest. I’ve swum with dolphins in Jamaica, skydived in Manitoba, and ridden down the longest zipline in Canada,” she shared with OLG.
“With my winnings, I plan to pay down my mortgage, share with my family, and perhaps take a trip abroad to catch a Tottenham Hotspur soccer match,” she concluded.
Larson bought her winning ticket at Good Luck Lottery Shoppe on Rivers Street in Thunder Bay.
