There was a very special guest at the Saddledome for last night’s game between the Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators.
Calgary’s own Tate McRae was in the building, rocking a Flames sweater with her own name on the back.
No place like home!

McRae, who was born and raised in Calgary, has become a worldwide sensation in recent years. The 23-year-old pop star is known for several hits including “Greedy,” “It’s ok I’m ok,” and “you broke me first,” among several others.

This isn’t the first time McRae has attended a Flames game since becoming a household name. She was also in the building for a game near the holidays last season, once again rocking her own Flames sweater with the same No. 8 on it. The Flames were able to win that game, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning by a 4-2 final.

McRae, to no surprise given that she’s Canadian, comes from a hockey family. Her brother, Tucker, who she attended both games with, spent parts of four seasons playing in the AJHL with the Okotoks Oilers. He is currently playing in his junior season with Dartmouth College.
As expected, many Calgarians were thrilled to see McRae in the building to cheer on her hometown team.

Unfortunately for McRae, she wasn’t able to see a victory like she did last year. Last night’s game was entertaining but saw the Flames fall 3-2 in overtime. It was a rather controversial game from an officiating standpoint, which left several Flames players, as well as head coach Ryan Huska, quite frustrated.

Despite the final result, the Flames were able to pick up a much-needed point, allowing them to remain in a wild-card position in the Western Conference. They’ll be back in action tomorrow afternoon versus the Chicago Blackhawks, before a lengthy and much-deserved holiday break.
