Calgary windchill dips to -25 C, mild snowfall affecting road conditions

Calgary drivers may find roads slippery with some visibility issues after some overnight snowfall Tuesday morning, with fog dissipating early.

660 NewsRadio meteorologist Michael Kuss says some snowfall in parts of the city will taper off in the late morning before the afternoon.

“Most areas may not pick up another centimetre or two, but it’s that snow that’s falling and the reduced visibility causing concerns this morning,” he said.

Kuss says temperatures are expected to stay steady at -15 C, with a windchill that makes it feel like -25 C.

Environment Canada says this is expected to dip to -21 C overnight with a -27 C windchill.

Calgarians can also expect snow in the evening, with meteorologists saying around two to four centimetres will fall before Wednesday morning.

Rob Griffiths with Environment Canada says the long-range forecast predicts warmer temperatures by the weekend, but it’s not entirely certain yet.

“It’s a bit far off yet to say with certainty, but that’s also been related to a system going through northern alberta and Calgary will kind of get into the warm with that one”

Near freezing temperatures are expected to linger until Friday.
