Back in Calgary for the first time since her late husband’s passing, Meredith Gaudreau chose to have something done that would last a lifetime.
Prior to last night’s game between the Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, which saw all the Gaudreaus in town on an evening the organization honoured Johnny, Meredith revealed to Sportsnet’s Ryan Leslie that she chose to get her first tattoo earlier in the day.
The well-done design, which she said she had done across the street from the Saddledome, features Johnny’s autograph.

“I got his autograph because I figured this is where it all kind of started,” Meredith explained while fiddling with her bracelets that sit around it. “He got me all these bracelets, so I like that it was kind of underneath all [of them]. I found a really good signature that he did, and then I got his autograph here because I thought it would be really cool to say I did it in Calgary.”
The Gaudreaus have spent the past several days in Calgary after the Flames organization flew them into town for what was an extremely emotional game last night. As unimaginably difficult as these past few days had to have been, Meredith said she was very happy to be back in a city she and Johnny called home for several years.
“[The community] has just been amazing. I read everyone’s messages, and I feel like this is home away from home still,” she said. “It’s really nice being able to be here, having fans see the kids. There’s a ton of people that I’m going to see tonight. I am really happy to be here.”
Johnny was honoured prior to puck drop with an incredible video tribute, which the Gaudreaus stood on the Flames bench to watch before stepping onto the ice for a ceremonial puck drop.

Following the game, which the Flames won by a 3-0 final, Guy Gaudreau was brought onto the ice after Johnny was named the game’s first star. As he stood and waved to a roaring crowd, the rest of the Gaudreau family watched and helped cheer him on from their suite.
“And your first star… From your Calgary Flames, Johnny Gaudreau.”

As hard of an evening as it was, it was great for Flames fans to see the Gaudreaus back in Calgary. The entire fan base did an amazing job showing just how much Johnny meant and continues to mean to the community.
