This morning, officials from the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo will release details of the investigation into the death of a two-year-old gorilla last week.
Eyare, a western lowland gorilla died at the zoo on Nov. 12.
At the time, officials said she was hurt while moving “between back of house spaces” at the zoo.
An exact cause of death will likely be released Wednesday, when director of animal care, health, and welfare, Colleen Baird, speaks to media at 9:30 a.m.
Eyare was born at the zoo in 2022, the first offspring to gorillas Jasiri and Dossi.
When announcing the young gorilla’s death, Baird called Eyare “playful and curious,” and said she will be “deeply missed” by all the zoo staff and her gorilla troop.
The gorilla troop at the zoo was made up of seven gorillas, the newest of which is Okabe, a baby born last May.
