Chorney-Booth: Persian Plate adds some flavour to the city’s far northwest

The size of the room only allows for 20 guests to dine in at its five tables, so a good chunk of the focus is on relatively quick and portable take-out (the owners describe it as an “express” concept), though it is by no means a fast-food restaurant. Persian food is a unique entity – even though Iran borders Pakistan and is not far from Lebanon, its cuisine is distinctly different from its neighbours. Dishes typically include ingredients like nuts, onion, garlic, rice and lots of meat (everything at Persian Plate is certified halal) and are full of gentle and aromatic herbs and spices such as turmeric, mint, dill and, most prominently, saffron.
