It’s been a long time coming, but Calgary’s first Chick-fil-A location has finally opened its doors.
Hundreds of Calgarians turned out and waited as long as 12 hours to see what was in store at Chick-fil-A’s first standalone location in the city at 9223 Macleod Trail SW. We at Dished were also extremely curious to check it out.
While there was a Chick-fil-A location at Calgary Airport years ago, the new spot is the first permanent, standalone location in YYC.
The new spot, owned and operated by Rob Bourassa, houses a huge dining room that seats up to 130 people and a drive-thru for those on the go.
While it was extremely busy on opening day, the ordering process was super streamlined. Diners can order at the counter, but Chick-fil-A also has what it calls “upstream ordering.” Staff members with iPads can process orders to help speed up wait times.
During the warmer months, this upstream ordering system will also be extended to the drive-thru.
Most importantly, we were there to check out the food. The menu is largely the same as its US counterpart, with Chick-fil-A’s signature chicken sandwiches, waffle fries, hand-spun milkshakes, and Chick-fil-A sauce.
Despite the crowds, our Chick-fil-A order was ready within five minutes, just as we were ready to put it to the test.
For chicken, we opted for the classic Chick-fil-A sandwich and the nuggets. Both were pretty tasty, with crispy breading and juicy chicken. The waffle fries were also a hit.
Of course, we had to try our meal with some of the famous Chick-fil-A sauce, and it was… just fine. The sauce itself is tangy but also pretty sweet, which could be a good or bad thing.
Lastly, we just had to try a milkshake, and it was pretty adorable. Complete with whipped cream and a cherry on top, it was thick and creamy and a delicious way to round off the meal.
Chick-fil-A’s Macleod Trail outpost will be open from 10:30 am to 10 pm Monday through Saturday.
