Pineapple Hall: New downtown food hall opens in Calgary

A brand-new food hall, where diners can sample dishes from some of Calgary’s most popular restaurants, has just opened its doors.

As indecisive eaters here at Dished, we love a good food hall, so we just had to check out Pineapple Hall, a brand-new multi-concept space, on opening day.

Brought to life by Concorde Group, Pineapple is home to a food hall, cafe, and patisserie perfectly primed to serve downtown workers. It offers everything from coffee and pastries to grab-and-go food and hot dishes.

The unique concept brings some of Concorde’s most well-known restaurants under one roof, including Lonely MouthDouble Zero PizzaSurfy Surfy, and Clive Burger. The food comes in at a range of price points, from two tacos for $10 to $23 for a bento box.

Unlike some food halls, where you need to order from separate kiosks, diners at Pineapple Hall can order from any of the menus on one bill. So whether you’re craving a bento box from Lonely Mouth or a Clive Burger (or both, we’re not judging), you only need to line up once.

You’ll then need to give your phone number as you’ll get a text to let you know when your food is ready and which of the two windows to pick it up from.

Having tried it for ourselves, we were impressed by how streamlined and speedy the process was. We opted for some Surfy Surfy tacos and received the order in around five minutes.

The food was fresh and even served in handy takeout packaging, so if you’re in a rush, you can take it with you.

For those looking to relax, Pineapple Hall has a pretty large dining room with plenty of seating for those looking for a change of scenery on their lunch break.

The space is also home to Needs Must, a new cafe and patisserie, which is unlike any of Concorde’s previous offerings. The spot will be open from 7 am on weekdays for coffee, tea, juice, smoothies and more.

In addition to the usual sips you’d expect to find at your local cafe, Needs Must is a haven for sandwiches and a rotating selection of baked goods prepared by an in-house pastry team.

Rather than opting for our usual plain latte, we tried the Salted Honey Vanilla Latte. Despite our fears that the honey would be too sweet, it was actually in perfect balance with Monogram coffee.

It would be rude not to pick up a sweet treat for the road, so we tried the Cereal Bowl cookie, topped with chocolate, marshmallows, and cereal. The cookie was perfectly baked with a chewy centre, and while we’d definitely pick it up again, Needs Must has a hefty line-up of sweet treats to try out.

The 17th Avenue hotspot, Pigeonhole, also has its second outpost right alongside the new food hall area. Open from 7 am on weekdays and 9 am on weekends, diners will be able to get their hands on brunch and lunch offerings, shareables and cocktails.
