You won’t find a hotter team in pro hockey than the Calgary Wranglers at this exact moment.
The Wranglers have been a very good AHL team the past few seasons, but were expected to take a step back in 2024-25 with players like Dustin Wolf and Matt Coronato cracking the Flames’ opening night roster.
While the Wranglers did get Coronato back for a brief two-game sample, not having Wolf hasn’t been an issue. Though they did drop their season opener to the Abbotsford Canucks, they have been perfect since, rifling off nine straight wins.

A big part of their hot start has been the play of Rory Kerins. The 22-year-old, who had 16 goals a season ago, sits tied for the AHL lead in goals this year with nine. Walker Duehr, meanwhile, sits tied for the team lead in points with 11.
Jakob Pelletier, who was surprisingly waived by the Flames at the end of training camp, has yet to find the back of the net but is just one assist shy of the AHL lead with 10. Last but certainly not least up front is Dryden Hunt, who also has 10 points on the season.
In between the pipes, Devin Cooley has been everything and more that the organization could have hoped for. He’s started seven games, during which time he’s compiled a ridiculous 1.82 goals against average (GAA) along with a .946 save percentage (SV%). Backup Waltteri Ignatjew has been spectacular as well, with a 2.34 GAA and a .927 SV% through his three starts.
The Wranglers are set to add even more firepower to their lineup, as Samuel Honzek was assigned to the AHL last week but has yet to suit up.
They will be back in action tonight as they look to make it 10 straight, and in a rather fitting fashion, they’ll be looking to do so against the Edmonton Oilers’ AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. Puck drop in tonight’s outing is set for 7 pm MT.
