The owner of two dogs who fatally attacked an 86-year-old Calgary woman in 2022 is facing more charges after police say he disobeyed a court order.
Denis Bagaric is facing one count of disobeying a court order in connection to bylaw charges he faced connected to the death of Betty Ann Williams.
Williams was gardening in the alley of her Capitol Hill home in June 2022 when she was mauled by Bagaric’s three American Staffordshire terriers.
She waited 30 minutes for an ambulance to take her to the hospital, where she died of her injuries.
Immediately after Williams’ death, the three animals were taken into city custody, all three of the dogs were ordered to be euthanized.
Bagaric pleaded guilty to two city bylaw charges in May of this year, admitting to one count of an animal attacking a person causing severe injury and one count of animals running at large.
The Crown handed down a $15,000 fine and a ban on owning a pet for 15 years.
Earlier this month, police seized two dogs from Bagaric’s home. The dogs are currently under the care of the city’s Animal Services Centre.
“The dogs’ futures are being carefully considered as we balance the animals’ well-being and the requirements of the court-ordered prohibition,” police said in a statement.
Bagaric is set to appear in court on Monday, Dec. 2.
