‘It’s unsettling’: Calgary couple have e-bikes stolen from garage while at home

A Calgary couple says they feel violated after having their pricey e-bikes stolen out of their garage while they were home.

Surveillance video submitted by the family to CityNews shows two people approach the house in southwest Calgary and leave with two electric bikes on Saturday.

The couple say they were doing yard work with their garage door open when they noticed two strangers riding away on their bikes.

“What makes me so angry is we are so careful all the time,” says Hugo Anastasiya. “We are so cautious because something also happened a few years back which made us be very aware.”

“And still, you slip for two seconds and that’s it. That’s enough.”

Anastasiya says the couple saved for years to buy the bikes and normally have them locked up with strong locks.

They say the bikes also hold sentimental value in addition to the monetary loss.

“They are special bikes, we are into cycling so we like our bikes,” says Anastasiya. “It’s something we hold dear.”

The couple say the theft of the bikes has left them feeling violated and unsafe, knowing someone can just walk onto their property and take something.

“We always felt comfortable and just thinking about it makes me sick,” says Anastasiya. “It’s unsettling.”

“Two random individuals just walked into your house. Ya they walked into the garage, but they were just a door away to get into the house.”

The family is hopeful they can get the e-bikes back. The security footage clearly shows at least one of the alleged suspects faces.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police.
